“For me, birthdays was just another day, nothing special or worth remembering. No cake, no gifts, celebration. Just another day that reminded me of how miserable it was being a child trapped in the foster care system.” Trina Askew

How We Operate
Did you know that children residing in homeless and domestic violence shelters seldom have their birthdays celebrated?
Join Trina’s Birthdays, Inc. as a supporter to eliminate the practice of not recognizing homeless and abused children’s birthdays. Your generous donation will be used to buy the materials required to put together our renowned Trina’s Birthday Box. Trina’s Birthday Boxes are whole birthday party kits for kids that come with a cake, hats, balloons, plates, cups, decorations, etc., and an age-appropriate gift. Our team will put together a Trina’s Birthday Box and deliver it to the facility where the child is housed on or before their birthday. The facility’s director will then contact the child’s parents to inform them that a Trina’s Birthday box has been created in their honor.
Why we do what we do?
Trina’s Birthdays Inc. is committed to ensuring every child residing in domestic violence or homeless shelters have their birthday celebrated. Since 2019, Trina’s Birthdays, Inc. has donated our iconic Trina’s Birthday Box to children residing in our local domestic violence and homeless shelters.
Children who use our services report feeling unique, valued and honored. To lessen the adverse effects of the emotional trauma brought on by domestic violence and housing insecurity, we think providing children with a pleasant, lasting experience is essential. Our programs not only offer memorable experiences for the children we work with but also help parents feel less anxious about disappointing their children on their special day. The birthday surprises offered by Trina’s Birthdays, Inc. are credited to the parents. This strategy gives the parents a sense of ownership and enables them to participate in their child’s birthday celebrations.
Trina’s Birthdays, Inc. strives to lessen the burden on homeless parents because birthday celebrations can be expensive, and many homeless parents lack the resources to mark this occasion. Trina’s Birthdays, Inc. proudly supports the homeless community by delivering all the joy and happiness that a birthday celebration can offer.

Upcoming Events
It takes a Village to Raise a Child program is coming soon.
“Omwana ni wa bhone,” which means “… regardless of a child’s biological parents, its upbringing belongs to the community,” serves as the basis for our “It Takes A Village To Raise A Child (ITAVTRAC) program.
Every month, our ITAVTRAC program will gather the entire community to formally recognize each child who happened to be born in that particular month. The people that make up the “community” include the child’s family, friends, fellow residents, and the staff of our partnered shelters. This is in addition to providing each child that happens to have a birthday during that month with a personalized Trina’s Birthday Box.
The “It Take A Village To Raise A Child” initiative seeks to inspire the community as a whole to assist and engage positively with children who are negatively impacted by domestic violence and homelessness so that they can be assured of positive experiences and grow in a safe and healthy environment.
Our flagship initiative, It Takes A Village To Raise A Child (ITAVTRAC), needs your help to get started. To run the program, we need money to buy tables, chairs, bounce houses, and other supplies. With the power of your pen, you have the immediate and direct opportunity to profoundly impact the lives of children residing in a homeless or domestic violence shelter by ensuring that their birthdays will never again be uncelebrated. Please, exercise your power for the benefit of the children whom we serve.
